After getting my motor back together and running.
and as I was ready to drive it I noticed the valve train was getting louder followed by oil light.
how can a mechanical pump just fail like that?
Has less than 7k on it w no leaks. Or abnormal wear when I was in there inspecting

Whats in there to make it stop pumping?
Tryin to wrap my head around this understand it.
still in disbelief.

Brand new It had 7k on it from when I did my full rebuild to fail..
My HG failed so I went through replaced all the seals with the street pro kit from cometic.

Car ran good for 10min before it failed..nothing went it dry
Because everything is funner with lube.... :D

That is odd. Does Toyota still have these oil pumps for sale?
Yes for 226$

I opted for a 98+camry oil pump as is suppose to be a high volume pump. And at half the price for oem

I read the description it the bgb all I think that can really fail would be the pressure relief valve....

I pulled out the oil pressure sending unit and zero oil came out.

Could something be blocking a passage? Seems really weird to just fail as it seems like these pumps are more likely to lose pressure instead of failure.

I'm not sure. That's why I'm picking brains. either way I look at it, it's gotta come off..

I won't get to get my hands on it for a couple of days. So I'm strain the oil and see how it looks then oil filter. N valve cover to see if anything burnt up..I hope not!

Idk what else too do from there than to take apart the oil pump. .

I would be inclined to pull the pan and make sure the oil pick-up screen isn't clogged up with something.

An engine builder told me many years ago that he sees it a lot when someone goes crazy with the RTV silicone.

I cleaned everything down to every little spec! I fill it with oil n swirled it wiped clean n repeated with the oil pan off. I have plenty of XP w rtv so I'm more than confident that the proper amount is there..

Either way it's all gotta come off so I'm sure I'll discover something along the way. Anything else I can do other than what I mentioned?

I appreciate the input!

Well it means the oil pump doesn't supply pressure to the rest of the engine.
So yeah. Kinda.

I meant like one min it was fine then the next it just stopped..

You can get the Aisin OPT-080 oil pump from RockAuto and similar sites for around $70. Same part as the dealer with the Toyota logo ground off.

There really isn't much to these oil pumps, so a failure is indeed surprising. Was it a Toyota OE pump, or something aftermarket?

Did you change the small gasket that goes between the oil strainer pipe and the block (part no. 23293-88360)? I imagine if you forgot this gasket, the oil pump would suck in air from the crank case instead of oil from the oil pan.

Aftermarket.. can't remember what brand tho. Yes I did change the gasket for the strainer, I used the gasket from the cometic kit.

I'll hopefully ill start wrenching tomorrow afternoon or on sat.

Its a stretch but you could have clearance issues with your main and/or rod bearings. If you have your pan off you might wanna double check your torque on those bolts. If you really can't track down the issue then I'd pull the bearings and check your clearances with the plastiguage. However with zero oil pressure it does sound more like an oil pump issue.
