Front LSD - TorSen type for Celica GT4

I'd be fine without a warranty but my worry would be ordering replacement parts if needed. I'd hate to have one small part failure a year later make the whole thing useless because we can't get spare parts.

In most cases if a part inside the gearbox brakes under load than the whole thing is trash so the whole diff will be the replacement part ! :)

How many miles did you put on your front lsd in your other car? How long have you had it installed in it, and how many races have you done. Oh, and how much power does that car make. That might be a good bit of info to add to the mix.

Cannot believe so many people worried about warranty issues. Look, you are buying a custom product that is a PROTOTYPE. You want to be a first adopter you have to take a risk!
As an engineer I understand the manufacturing issues and the possibilities of breakage. You cant predict every power plant OR how every driver will treat it. At this stage I don't NEED it but if I do decide at a later date I would gladly stump up for this part because at present THIS IS THE MOST FEASIBLE OPTION. Thanks BNZ for stepping up and taking the punt and I truly hope it is everything you wished for.

It's not that relevant as the car put's ~200 hp and is weights around 900kg so the stress on the gearbox is not that much as people here expect. But i raced it a full season without a problem.

@bmt - You are 100% right

Most of us understand the risks with custom parts. Hell I have a lot and those parts if they should break will cost me a pretty penny to replace. I believe other members here including myself have a legitimate question when we are asking for updates on the unit. Some members will be using this for a mild build but others will be using it for heavy builds as well. Our concerns do not require a warranty but for our questions to be answered that's a pretty big thing. As an engineer it's pretty normal to ask a bunch of questions.

If possible please have the shop create a nick and log on so they may be able to answer some of our questions. Communication for most of the buyers here will be a key deciding factor.

My asking questions is the best I can do to research these parts. I research every item I put on my car, and this company is not known through common internet reviews like with most parts. This is a hefty investment for most of us, and honestly I doubt most on the forums who will buy them are installing them into race cars. We are installing them into street cars that will see the occasional track and regular autox. I am sure some will see heavy duty, but most of us will want something that will be reliable and perform well. If it is something that a race team would buy, and expect to toss after a couple seasons then it would certainly not be a part for me. I am looking for something that will hopefully have the life of the oem front diff, but provide me with better performance.
I still look forward to how this turns out, and I still have hope that this will be exactly what we need.

I have finally found time and took the engine down to do a crank/bearings/flywheel/clutch job and when all comes together also the new box will be in an doing some gravel stages.
Will let you know if it will brake or not :)

I knew I would find something useful here.

I too am desperately wanting centre/front LSD in my ST185 rally car. There is absolutely nothing around and if there is, its a second hand TRD unit and very very rare, and very very expensive.

So, yes I am very very keen to get onboard with this project. I know where I can get another transmission from to get the centre and front diff out of, so if we can find out some definite information here I am ready to go...

The diff looks really good, and strong. I am not usually a Torsen fan at all, but it will be better in the front than an open diff.....

Great stuff!!

I finally put all together and started the car last night. i have a hillclimb event i will attend next week. I am really anctious how the gearbox/diff will behave :D

Good news, I am very interested to see how this goes too.

Im really keen on one of these too. I see kevzip, you are in new zealnd too. could potenially get asleast two sent down under and save on freight.

We might get a slight discount on getting two made, no discount on shipping, its done on the weight vs cubic calculation. I ship a lot of stuff internationally and have yet to get a shipping discount.
I think the best option is to hope for a discount for getting two made instead of just one.

What are you running? Rally car or Circuit? GT4?

I'm in Auckland where are you situated?

I would of though it would be cheaper to send two, but im sure you know better than me. hopefully we could get a discount with atleast 2 to be manufactured.

I have a st185 gt4, rally car, see my post in the new members section. Im in christchuch, doing most of the rallies in the south island this year.

Yeah, freighting has no bulk discount unfortunately, yeah I'll pop over to the other forum and have a look at your post...

I do mostly rallysprints, but I do have plans to do a couple of rallies next year.

Are you doing Canterbury?

I've done some test km yesterday and i have to say it's really impressive how the front is dragging you into the curve now instead of understeering like a bitch (with only the torsen in the back) !
Finally i can put my foot down earlier into the curve and with more confidence.
Ah and finally it's spinning all 4 wheels equally during a launch start !

great news, yes well if you were just using the rear torsen before and open centre, then I can imagine the torsen in the front would have made a very big difference.

Up until now, I have been using the rear torsen and the centre viscous coupling locked, and that has given me good results, but you do have to drive it quite aggressive, especially in the tight stuff.

I am looking to have an LSD in the front, but I would like the centre to be LSD also....but, pretty keen to get an LSD in the front regardless.

Tell us BNZ, how can we get a couple of these Torsen Diffs, I am definitely wanting one at this point.
